“Colder than average” temperatures this weekend

PRINCE GEORGE–We are dipping our toes into the negatives this weekend and possibly into next week as well.

Northerner’s may not feel the need to pull out the toques just yet though. According to Doug Lundquist, a Meteorologist for Environment Canada, we will only be hitting as low as -5 overnight this weekend–not quite toque weather for us, right?

Lundquist told CKPG News that cold air is moving into the Prince George area from the Yukon and NWT, pushing clouds with potential flurries our way for Friday night. However, those should clear into the weekend. Lundquist doesn’t think any records will be broken this weekend but mentions if there is one we might be able to reach, it would be tonight (Friday), as the current minimum record for today is -5.

Temperatures this weekend will “definitely (be) colder than average,” he said to us in an over the phone interview, with average temperatures sitting at highs of 14 and lows of 2.

As for what this winter might look like Lundquist says it is “up in the air,” for the next few months.

“If there’s one thing pointing to warmer than average (weather), it’s the fact that the waters off the Pacific coast– so west of Haida Gwaii and Vancouver Island (are) really warm–off Alaska as well, the water is really warm,” said Lundquist.

Next week Lunquist says we can expect it to warm a little bit into Tuesday and Wednesday, but you can’t have a high without a low, with temperatures cooling down later in the week.
