Spruce Kings double up Rivermen to kick-off weekend double-header

Nov 2, 2019 | 9:37 AM

The Prince George Spruce Kings returned to the friendly confines of the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena Friday night as they welcomed their Mainland division rivals, the Langley Rivermen.

After a bit of a feeling-out process in the opening frame which saw neither team find the back of the net, the two teams would begin to find their stride in the middle stanza.

Langley would open the scoring just 1:58 into the 2nd thanks to Joseph Musa on the power play. The visitors would then double their lead on another man advantage thanks Devin Leduc and his 8th of the campaign.

However, the home side would begin to click on their power play too.

Preston Brodziak would get the home side on the board with 3:55 remaining in the frame with his 7th of the season and then 1:50 later, Nolan Welsh would tie the game with a power-play goal of his own to even the contest at 2.

The Spruce Kings would carry that momentum into the 3rd where Welsh would net the go-ahead goal with 8:32 remaining in the frame on an odd-man rush.

The goal would turn out to be the game-winner as Chong Min Lee would bury an empty netter with two seconds remaining as the Spruce Kings earned a 4-2 win.

With the win, the Spruce Kings improve to 7-9-2-1 on the year and vaults them ahead of Langley in the Mainland division.

The two clubs will collide once again Saturday evening at the RMCA.

Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
