PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George born Brad Baylis wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for the cutting-edge brain monitoring medical equipment that was only available in North America at Vancouver General Hospital.

Brad Baylis, was driving back to Prince George in August of 2018 from the Bulkley Valley region and three months later woke up in a hospital bed in Vancouver. The collision fractured his cheek, orbital and nasal bones, the upper palate in his mouth, and his forehead. His brain had extreme swelling and bleeding.

Brad was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital where the medical teams evaluated him and found his injuries were severe. His brain had become so swollen, the decision was made to use the Brain Bolt, equipped with a new microdialysis catheter not found anywhere else in Canada.

According to medical staff, he had less than a 10 per cent chance of survival. If he did make it through, there was a high chance he would be in a vegetative state.
