TRAIL — The Prince George Spruce Kings’ quest for back-to-back Fred Page Cups will not be as smooth as their first championship run. PG surrendered two goals in the final frame to fall 2-1 in their opening playoff match against Trail.

Nick Bochen got the Kings on the board in the first period during a 5-on-3 powerplay. That lead would hold until the 13:51 mark of the third period where Trail would finally beat Jett Alexander, who earned third star honours for a 35-save performance. Then, with just 3:04 left in regulation, Phillippe Lapointe gave the Smoke Eaters the lead with the eventual game-winner.

PG managed the only powerplay goal of the game, going 1/2 with the man advantage. Despite giving up six powerplays, the Kings were perfect on the penalty kill.

“For a young group, I was impressed with what we did tonight. Obviously, it would have been nice to hold on at the end, but that’s going to happen and we will look to be better in Game 2,” said Alex Evin, Head Coach.
