PRINCE GEORGE – While Upper Fraser Road was re-opened on Saturday, March 7th following a derailment of a CN Rail train, the clean-up continues.

As a result, Giscome Elementary School will remain closed until the clean-up is completed and it is safe to return to the school.

Vice Principal of Giscome Elementary, Jason Schwartz was told at the time of the derailment that the cars were carrying propane and coal.

Staff and students from Giscome Elementary will be re-routed to Blackburn Elementary in the meantime. Buses will pick up students at their regular times and transport them to Blackburn Elementary, including students who were previously impacted by the road closure. The School District says students will return home a little later than usual, however.
