Select Committee on Poverty Reduction finishing task soon
PRINCE GEORGE – Mayor and Council got an update from the Select Committee on Poverty Reduction recently, as it reaches the end of its mandate.
“So there are a number of themes that have been identified in the provincial strategy,” explains Sarah Brown, Staff Liaison for the Select Committee. “So the Select Committee’s role is to review those themes and look at those themes from the municipal jurisdiction.” To date, the Committee has hosted information sessions looking at the following themes: Stigma and Discrimination, Housing, Access to Services and Employment and Jobs.
More engagement dates have been set. They include Food Security (April 14th), Transportation (May 12th) and Advocacy (June 9th). The plan is to have a set of recommendations for Council by the end of June.
“After that point, the Select Committee would like to use the remainder of 2020 to develop and engage with the public with a specific focus on receiving feedback from those with lived experience.”
