COFI opts to cancel convention
PRINCE GEORGE – A consequence of the Corona-virus has struck this community.
Every second year, the Council of Forest Industries convention comes to Prince George, bringing together industry and government to talk about all things forestry. The convention was scheduled this year from April 1 to 3. It is the largest gathering of the forest sector in Western Canada.
But, COFI says it regrets it has cancelled this year’s event in light of the Corona Virus achieving a pandemic level from the World Health Organization.
“We are naturally disappointed because we always look forward to connecting with our industry colleagues, communities and partners,” said Susan Yurkovich, President and CEO of COFI. “However, given the circumstances, including the World Health Organization today declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic, cancelling the convention is the prudent decision to avoid putting the health and safety of delegates, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and staff at unnecessary risk.”
