PRINCE GEORGE–Today is World Kidney Day, a day where kidney foundations across the globe advocate for kidney disease which is when your kidneys are unable to filter blood the way that they should be.

We spoke with Paul Ravelle, President of the Prince George chapter for the Kidney Foundation of Canada who says that the need for organ transplantation is higher than the available supply.

“That is one of the main things we are pushing this year as the Kidney Foundation of Canada–increased awareness of organ donation,” said Ravelle to us in an on-camera interview. According to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in 2018, 4,300 Canadians were on a waiting list for a transplant, with 78 percent of those waiting, waiting for a kidney.

“You can register online and it generally takes two minutes as long as you’ve got your health-care number.”–Paul Ravelle, President of the Prince George chapter for the Kidney Foundation of Canada
