Economic Blow

Cancellations an economic blow

PRINCE GEORGE – For local event organizers, the week started with the cancellation of the Council of Forest Industries convention, which was set to bring hundreds of government and forestry officials to the city. As the week progressed, more events were cancelled, including the Work Women’s Curling Championships.

It’s an economic blow for some of the businesses, especially in the downtown where most of the events are taking place.

“Obviously, we’re pretty disappointed the curling had to be cancelled, as with some other events. It’s nice to have the extra bump in business but ultimately, what do you do? They are taking care of the health and safety of the public,” says Eoin Foley, owner of two downtown restaurants.

But there is more than one convention in the wings for Prince George. The North Central Local Government Association AGM is set for next month and the Canadian Bioenergy Conference in June.
