Start of season delayed for PGYBA

The sports world continues to be at a standstill due to the Covid-19 pandemic and for PGYBA the start of the 2020 campaign has been delayed with the news of the city shutting down their sports facilities until the end of May.

“The City shut down all diamonds and all sports facilities until the end of May. That would delay our season generally by just a couple of weeks,” explained PGYBA President Carmen Martin.

Right now the baseball association is in a holding cell just waiting for a decision from Baseball Canada, but they do feel that will be coming soon. Most likely at the end of the month.

“The end of April is probably going to be our date as we are going to have to decide either way and make some further decisions. If we can’t get a spring season we hope we can at least get a summer season and that’s when our all-star teams travel,” shared Martin.

However, even if the facilities are re-opened at the end of May, that doesn’t mean baseball season can resume right away. They would then need to check out the conditions of all the diamonds in the city and get them in tip-top shape before the start of the campaign.

While the spring season is in limbo, so is the competitive season. If the Provincial Championships end up being cancelled there is a good chance the same can be said for the summer season.
