Prince George RCMP say crime has remained steady amidst pandemic
PRINCE GEORGE— The Prince George RCMP say they have received a number of inquiries about crime statistics amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and have released several comparison statistics from this time last year.
RCMP say that violent crime against persons was up slightly in March, but down nearly 25 per cent in April.
In the month of March, domestic assaults were up nearly ten per cent in comparison to last year during the same time. For the month of April domestic assaults are down by 9 per cent.
In a release, Prince George RCMP say that break and enters may be “of particular concern to the public as a few incidents have been highlighted by the media as of late,” however, property crime for 2020 is within range of previously reported data. RCMP data indicated an increase of only 1 incident in March followed up by a decrease of two incidents so far in April.
