Students needing learning support return to school

PRINCE GEORGE – According to School District 57 officials, there have been some students in schools for a while supporting the communities’ essential service workers.

On Tuesday more students returned who require on-site learning support to successfully complete their year.

With the COVID pandemic still wreaking havoc across the province, there is no clear decision yet on when all the students will return to the classroom.

Around 150 children of essential service workers have been able to attend some school sites during this COVID 19 pandemic.

New this week more students are returning to school sites, raising the number of students returning to around 500 students.

The number one priority for the school district is the safety of staff and students.

There are six school sites across the district that essential service worker’s children attend.

According to officials, students that require additional support in learning will be onsite 1 to 2 hours a day and 1 to 2 times a week.

British Columbia’s education minister Rob Fleming says a number of scenarios are being considered for what would be a controlled and measured return to classrooms, but no timelines have been set.
