City wants residents to prepare in case of emergency: National Emergency Preparedness Week

PRINCE GEORGE—During this year’s Emergency Preparedness Week the City of Prince George is encouraging residents to prepare for a possible emergency.

Emergency Preparedness Week started on May third and goes until the ninth.

This year the City is particularly encouraging residents to create plans for their households in case of an emergency, by assembling an emergency kit, such as a grab-and-go 72-hour kit.

“Prince George is surrounded by forest and we have the Fraser and Nechako Rivers flowing through our community. This in itself requires us to be knowledgeable and a prepared public is our best resource in the event of an emergency.”—Lyn Hall, Mayor of Prince George

Mayor Hall says that Council is encouraging residents to visit Emergency Management B.C.’s website along with the City’s emergency planning page to learn more about creating an emergency kit.

City staff began installing signs at Paddlewheel Park last week on how to prepare in the event of a flood; the park is usually one of the first areas in the City that experiences flooding.

Emergency Preparedness Week is a national awareness initiative that has taken place annually since 1996.
