Cariboo top scoring blue liner headed to Whitecourt next season

You couldn’t ask for a better final season of midget hockey for Cariboo Cougars blue liner Mathew Magrath.

Not only did he anchor the Cariboo Cougars blue line in 2019-2020, but he led the back end in points with 3 goals and 17 assists.

“I definitely think I had a good year,” stated Magrath.

“Leading the back end in points and taking on a bigger role than last year, playing more minutes.”

Magrath will be joining teammate Brennan Bott in Whitecourt next season as he joins the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Wolverines.

“Right after we got back from Macs the Wolverines contacted me and said they wanted me for next year and I hadn’t made a decision yet, but with everything happening with this whole Corona thing, what they had offered me and everything it turned out to be my best option,” revealed Magrath.

Both Magrath and Bott are excited to join a Wolverines squad who finished 3rd in the AJHL’s North division last season.
