PRINCE GEORGE—The 2020 Canadian Native Fastball Championships have been postponed until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Championships were scheduled to take place starting July 31st and running until August 3.

“At this time, it’s important to adhere to public health guidelines to protect the athletes, their families, our elders, and the community of Prince George.”—Randy Potskin, President of the Canadian Native Fastball Association

Prince George is no stranger to the championships seeing that it hosted them in 1994, 2004, and most recently in 2016.

The tournament brings together fastball teams from across the country and has been held annually since 1974.

“The Championships are not just a sporting event…It is a cultural celebration and an opportunity to bring youth, athletes and communities together. We look forward to welcoming everyone in 2021.” —Harley Desjarlais, chair of the local organizing committee

The event would have brought over 80 teams to the city, and nearly 2,500 visitors. A release by tourism Prince George says that the estimated economic impact of the event was set at $3.5 million dollars.

Tourism Prince George adds that they stand behind the decision to cancel the event at this time, saying that it will make for a great event, next year.
