How methods of developing athletes have changed over the years
The way athletes have developed over the years has changed immensely.
What was done 20 years ago to get athletes to excel is completely different than what is done in 2020.
“If we look back at some of the biggest movements over the last couple of decades and we look back in the 80’s or back in the ’90s, a lot of it was coach-led,” shared PGYSA club Director Terrol Russel.
“Coach has a request of a player. The player produces the request and you get some sort of output or outcome. Today we look at the process more than a winning outcome. The process of how athletes are developed, how you build a culture, how you build an environment, what you surround the athlete with, the methodology you use to develop the athlete. The athletes are more engaged now and are part of the process.”
