Northern Health weighs in on milestone COVID-19 announcement

PRINCE GEORGE — It was an announcement that provided a glimpse of sunshine amidst all the doom and gloom associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announcing Thursday that all 64 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region had recovered.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins says it’s a testament to people’s diligence when it comes to the importance of washing your hands and maintaining a safe physical distance.

“It think it’s wonderful and I think it’s a credit to how northerners have responded to the public health guidance and orders that have been given for keeping our case numbers and our transmission rates low.

“But I think the important thing to remember is that the virus is still out there and the numbers on any given day the data is reported is a snapshot in time. So, I wouldn’t want anyone to interpret that as we’re at an end of anything or to become complacent.”

Digging a little deeper, modelling showed that 36 of those 64 cases were people living in the northern interior region of British Columbia, while 14 people lived in B.C.’s northwest and 14 more in the northeast.
