8 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health, 30 in B.C.

In total there are now 3,392 test positive cases of the virus in B.C., 304 of those are active.

One new death was reported in long term care, bringing B.C.’s death toll to 190. There are currently 16 people in hospital with three of those in ICU.

No new health care outbreaks were reported. Once again Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said that health officials continue to monitor community exposures across the province.

Once again Henry addressed the importance of British Columbians keeping their social circles small and staying home if sick. “Today we know that over 1000 people in every health authority across our province are self-isolating because they have been exposed to COVID-19,” said Henry, adding that most of these people are connected to the community exposures in the Okanagan.

“These people in BC have had to close their businesses or miss work…that is the impact that this is having on our friends and our families in this province right now. It shows us that the actions of a few, even if inadvertent, can cause a tremendous impact,” said Henry.

B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer will introduce an order for those who rent properties such as boats or Airbnb’s to limit the number of guests who visit to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. More details on this order will be released at a later date.

2,898 people have recovered from COVID-19 in B.C.
