PG Grays make Spruce City Fastball debut Wednesday night

There hasn’t been much to cheer for locally here in Prince George on the sports scene, but the Spruce City Fastball League is the one league that has been able to take to the field.

Last week the season kicked off and last night the league’s newest team debuted, as they make the transition from traditional baseball to fastball.

While for the average ball fan, there may not seem to be too many differences between the two, there are a few substantial changes.

For the PG Grays, they had to get used to these differences quickly as they joined the Spruce City Fastball League from the men’s baseball league for the season.

“The big thing is just how fast it is. Hitting is a little bit different. Catching is a bit different too. Defensively though, it is pretty similar,” stated PG Grays Catcher Cole Waldie.

When it comes to pitching, it is also drastically different. Going from throwing overhand to underhand.

“The big thing is in men’s league you can dance all over the rubber,” shared Grays Pitcher Joel Walkey.

“So just getting that all coordinated and working around other people’s divots around the mound.”

The Grays got off to a slow start, but their bats would come alive as they reached the top of the order for the 2nd time and they would earn a 14-3 win over the Freshii Hitmen.

Also Wednesday night, Falcon Camp Services edged Sibola Electric 7-6.

League play resumes Thursday night with another double header.

Falcon Contracting takes on the Freshii Hitmen at 7:00 p.m., and the PG Grays battle Sibola Electric at 8:30 p.m.
