Locals-first priority boarding is no more on B.C. Ferries

VICTORIA—The Province is scrapping its locals-first boarding on B.C Ferries.

Locals-first priority boarding was put in place in March of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was first declared, allowing priority boarding to those heading home.

“We wanted to ensure people could get home and to help ensure essential services for remote communities were maintained.”—Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure

The Province is also updating ministerial orders which will see priority medical-assured loading on the first available vessel for any individual, vehicle and escort. This is part of the Province’s ongoing COVID-19 response.

In order to qualify for priority loading for medical treatment, passengers have to provide a doctor’s letter indicating that they require medical-assured loading for treatment at check-in, as well as a completed Travel Assistance Program form.
