PRINCE GEORGE — An investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) is underway in Prince George.

BC RCMP say just before 7:30 p.m. last (July 30) night, the Prince George RCMP received a report from a vehicle tracking company that a truck stolen from Alberta was mapping in the Prince George area.

“Police received another report that a truck, bearing the licence plates of the stolen vehicle, had driven into a lot in the 1400 block of Old Cariboo Highway, three individuals, two women and one man, exited the truck and fled on foot,” says S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.

“The two women were located separately a short distance away, while the man was taken into custody following a short track with a police dog.”

She says one woman was released without charge, while the other woman and man were transported to the Prince George RCMP Detachment, where it was discovered that the man was suffering from injuries, which were later determined to be serious. He was taken to hospital where he remains.

The Prince George RCMP investigation continues, which Shoihet says includes allegations of a stolen vehicle, break and enter, driving while prohibited, possession of a controlled substance, and breach. The woman is expected to appear in court later today while the man will appear at a later date.

IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries. No further information will be released.
