VICTORIA—B.C. Premier John Horgan was accompanied by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister, Adrian Dix this afternoon to announce additional positions in health-care.

The Province is investing in 500 new temporary health-care worker positions to aid in contact tracing across B.C. as the pandemic continues.

“This allows us now to get more people trained up to do this really important work as we continue through the progression of our pandemic.” —Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C. Provincial Health Officer

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry saying that contact tracing is something that has occurred since the start of the pandemic. Contact tracing involves health-care workers determining who else a COVID-19 test-positive case has been in contact with over the past two weeks and alerts them of their potential exposure to the virus.

British Columbians who may have come in contact with someone with COVID-19 are then asked to self-isolate and monitor their symptoms in case symptoms do develop, in which case they must contact 8-1-1.

As we head into our fall months, Henry says that the 500 additional workers will help with contact tracing during a time, when COVID-19 cases may once again spike.
