BCNE a no-go

BCNE cancellation tough for one group

PRINCE GEORGE – For only the third time in more than a hundred years, the BC Northern Exhibition will not be happening because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a big deal for one special group.

There are four 4-H clubs in Prince George.

“It’s a family reunion for them to be able to catch up with their friends and for some of them, this is the only thing they do as a family,” explains Liz Ramsay, Director for the Pineview 4-H.

But it is also a marketplace. The kids spend their own money to buy and raise their animals. They are sold at the BCNE.

“Auctions are usually on Saturday nights. So it allows for any walkthrough traffic to ask questions and gain knowledge about the program.”

It is also the venue in which these kids can sell their animals and products. But without the BCNE, they cannot. So, instead, there’s an online auction which began last Monday.

Those interested in checking out the animals or even making a purchase have two options: visit the Facebook site “PG District 4H Council Livestock Auction” or visit www.ciauctions.bc.ca
