As hockey players slowly get back into the swing of things with September just around the corner, so does the growth of the female side of the game in Northern B.C.

The female game has grown immensely over the past few years and for both PGMHA and Cariboo Hockey, they hope that growth can continue.

“I think hockey is a great opportunity for these girls to still get scholarships,” shared Director of Hockey Operations for PGMHA Steve O’Roarke.

“It is something they can strive for and really excel at it.”

It also gives young female athletes something to look up to as they grow as hockey players.

“At the end of the day it is something a lot of young ladies look up to,” stated General Manager of Cariboo Hockey.

The Northern Capitals will have just over 40 female athletes trying out for their team this year.

For both PGMHA and Cariboo Hockey, the goal is to give female hockey players in Northern B.C the same opportunities as the boys.

“There is even potential for professional at it. For me, it is to try and get some schooling out of it for them. But it’s just exciting to get the girls back on the ice and see their passion for it,” concluded O’Roarke.
