New affordable rental housing for Valemount seniors and families

VALEMOUNT—Construction has begun for a new affordable rental home for seniors and families in Valemount.

The project is a partnership between the Province, the Columbia Basin Trust, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Valemount Affordable Rentals Society (VARS).

The project will be a two storey apartment building on 1295 Gordon Rd., and will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom units. The building will be managed by VARS, which identified affordable rental housing for seniors and families as a priority in the community following a needs assessment in 2016.

Construction on the new building began in August of this year and is expected to be complete by 2021. The project’s capital budget is close to $4.27 million.
