Air quality good in PG, but wildfire smoke could be seen through Thursday
PRINCE GEORGE—We continue to be surrounded by smoke from wildfires several hundred kilometers south of us.
The BC Wildfire Service says that there are no active fires in the Prince George Fire Centre, and that the smoke/haze seen in Prince George and surrounding communities can be attributed to fires in the United States.
At the moment (Sept.15) Environment Canada’s Air Quality Health Index rates Prince George’s Air Quality in the 1-3 range meaning that air quality conditions are ideal for outdoor activities. Any higher than a 3 can cause concern for those who have underlying health conditions such as people with respiratory illness, and those who suffer cardiovascular conditions.
“Respiratory illnesses include conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, or lung cancer. Cardiovascular conditions include angina, previous heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure, or heart rhythm problems (arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat).”—Government of Canada Website
