Oct 6, 2020 | 4:34 PM

QUESNEL–RCMP are requesting the public’s help in locating a man in relation to an attempted abduction yesterday evening (Oct.5).

Police say that on the evening of Oct.5 at approximately 7 p.m. an 11-year-old boy was walking with his family on the River Walk Trail between Quesnel River Bridge and the Lebourdais Park ball diamond. The boy stopped and decided to rest, while his parents continued to walk forward.

That’s when an unknown man ran at the boy and grabbed him around his neck. The suspect began dragging the boy who managed to fight off his attacker and run back to his family.

“This attack happened in an area close to a playground, recreation center, and ballpark, where young children and families frequent seven days a week.”–Sgt. Richard Weseen, of the Quesnel Detachment

Quesnel RCMP say that the suspect, described as a male approximately 5’9″, and skinny fled on foot toward the direction of Shepherd Ave. and Murphy St. He is described to have been wearing a ski mask, blue hoody, white shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

Police say the man may have been captured on someone’s dash-cam footage and are asking community members to review their footage if they were around that area yesterday (Oct.5) evening. Anyone with video footage or more information is asked to contact Quesnel RCMP at (250)992-9211 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS. Police are asking parents to talk to their children about safety plans, awareness and what to do if they are approached by a stranger.
