PRINCE GEORGE—”Slowly but surely we are seeing traffic increase at YXS,” says President and CEO of the Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA), Gordon Duke.

For the month of September traffic was down 73 per cent when compared to the same month last year; 10,902 passengers came through YXS in September 2020 compared to the 40,697 in 2019.

Although the PGAA continues to see an increase in passengers, the month of September 2020 saw a 1.14 per cent decrease in passengers compared to the month of August 2020—11,006 passengers were seen at YXS in August of this year.

“We continue to monitor, adjust and develop public health recommendations as we all make our way through this global pandemic…We continue to work with our airline partners to promote their services and help in any way that we can.”—Gordon Duke, President and CEO, PGAA

Pacific Coastal Airlines returned with non-stop service to Victoria three times per week this month and Air Canada added an additional flight to Vancouver on select days. Central Mountain Air also added service to and from Kelowna on Fridays.

PGAA says it awaits more information on how Ottawa will be helping the industries hardest hit by COVID-19, as the Prime Minister referenced aid for airlines and airports during his Throne Speech a few weeks ago.
