VICTORIA — Three more cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health over the past 24 hours, including 299 in British Columbia.

Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reka Gustafson says that brings the total case count in B.C. to 15,800 since the start of the pandemic.

She says there are 3,017 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, 6,888 people who are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and 12,430 people who tested positive have recovered.

Ninety-two people are currently hospitalized with the virus, 22 of whom are in intensive care.

Here’s the regional breakdown of cases:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 4,993
  • Fraser Health Region: 9,234
  • Island Health: 270
  • Interior Health: 788
  • Northern Health: 425
  • Outside Canada: 90

There have been three new deaths bringing the provincial death toll to 272.

“Today, much of the recent transmission is connected to social gatherings,” says Gustafson and Health Minister Adrian Dix. “That is why it is so important to keep our groups small.

“This is particularly important in the Fraser Health region where public health teams are asking everyone to avoid all social gatherings in your home right now – even those that are within the restrictions of the provincial health officer order.”
