VICTORIA – B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Minister of Health Adrian Dix have released the latest COVID-19 update for today. There are 525 new cases of COVID-19.

There are 5,133 active cases in the province, and 142 individuals are hospitalized.

There were seven new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Northern Health region.

Cases by Region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 159
  • Fraser Health: 325
  • Island Health: 7
  • Interior Health: 27
  • Northern Health: 7

In the joint statement, they say, “We need to break the chains of transmission and slow the surge of COVID-19 cases – especially in the regions and locations of highest spread.”

The joint statement also says, “The regional health authority restrictions are a short-term pause on non-essential activities to ensure we can maintain capacity within our health-care system and continue important essential activities.

Over the weekend, the Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health regions had further restrictions put in place. Yesterday, Premier John Horgan also said that the province could also return to lockdown if COVID-19 cases continue to increase.

The latest joint statement says, “We need to slow down and take a step back to allow us to safely move forward in the weeks ahead.”
