Food hamper campaigns changing

PRINCE GEORGE – Two Christmas food hamper campaigns will be very different this year.

The Council of Seniors will be accepting donations of cash and grocery gift cards this year, not food. The Council will then shop and put together hampers.

“We’re accepting applications for hampers until December 4th,” explains Lola-Dawn Fennell, Executive Director for the Council. “Seniors must be 65 years old age and in receipt of the Guaranteed Income Supplement to qualify. We will look at how many applicants we have and try to determine how to fill hampers appropriately.”

Another charity is doing things differently.

The Salvation Army is only accepting cash donations, which will be turned into food vouchers for those in need.

“We’re trying to honour the community’s best intentions and efforts to support those who are vulnerable while still keeping the community-at-large safe,” explains Major Neil Wilkinson with the Salvation Army.

Both organizations are hoping the community will support them as much as they have in the past.
