First COVID-19 vaccine administered in B.C, 522 new cases in the province Tuesday

PRINCE GEORGE – A glimmer of hope on the horizon, or in the words of Dr. Bonnie Henry, a light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel.

That as BC administered Pfizer-Biontech COVID-19 Vaccines to the first people in the province, healthcare workers in the Lower Mainland.

Prince George and Northern BC are expected to recieve their first doses of the vaccine as soon as next week.

That comes as BC saw 522 new cases of COVID-19 reported Tuesday by BC Health Officials, along with 21 more deaths related to complications due to the virus.

In Northern Health the cases continue to surge with 37 new cases reported Tuesday.

As of Monday there were 398 active cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, of the 1,331 reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are 361 people hospitalized in BC, 93 in intensive care.

There are 9,860 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, along with another 10,768 people who are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases and a further 31,866 people who tested positive have recovered.

Cases in B.C. begin to drop, although the daily case counts in Northern Health remain steady near 40 per day.

Northern Health has not provided an update on the evolving long-term care outbreak at Jubilee Lodge in Prince George reported Monday.
