Police remain focused on impaired drivers

PRINCE GEORGE – This month is CounterAttack Impaired Driving month across the province and the RCMP will continue to enforce its efforts during the holiday season.

Prince George RCMP conducted roving checks at multiple locations within the city between Thursday, December 17, 2020, and Monday, December 21, 2020.

As a result, the following Motor Vehicle Act violations were issued:

  • 9-90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions
  • 1-3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition
  • 11-Vehicle Impoundments
  • 2-24 hour Provincial Driving Prohibitions for alcohol
  • 1-12 hour Provincial Roadside Suspension for alcohol

According to ICBC, impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions on our roads. In British Columbia, an average of 67 people each year are fatal victims in crashes where alcohol, drugs, or medication was a contributing factor.

According to Sergeant Kyle Ushock, head of Prince George RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit the dynamic of traffic enforcement has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fact is impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions on our roads.
