PRINCE GEORGE – Depending on how you look at the winter season it can be good or bad.

Hate it or like, the fact is we have several more weeks of it. It’s been believed that those who have arthritis suffer increased pain during the cold temperatures.

Many people live with the daily pain of arthritis. There are several different types of it. Usually, the pain radiates from inflammation in the joints.

Pharmacist Brett Chiasson says, it could be the temperature or maybe not getting enough exercise is one of the more common reasons.

He adds when it becomes winter people stay inside, they don’t get out and exercise which can help control some of the pain.

As there are several different subtypes whether it be rheumatoid or osteoporosis arthritis finding the best way to reduce the pain can become a challenge.

Some people who live with the pain feel say the change in the barometric pressure is to blame for joint discomfort.

Chiasson says glucosamine with chondroitin has shown some evidence for reducing arthritis type symptoms.

But it needs to have the chondroitin in it. Glucosamine by itself did not demonstrate the same level of efficacy.

Health professionals suggest that staying active helps get the blood flowing and will reduce the pain and prevent arthritis from developing when you are young.

The good news is that there are ways to find some relief from the pain of arthritis in addition to prescription or over-the-counter medications.
