Local trainer recommends gradual changes to help reach health goals in 2021

With the turn of the calendar to the new year comes change.

Not just from 2020 to 2021, but changes in one’s life.

One of the more popular New Years’ resolutions is improved health, but as one local personal trainer tells us, keeping it simple is the true key to an improved active lifestyle.

“One of my favourite methods is just changing one thing for a couple of weeks and then adding something else good into that,” explained Liz Bennett to CKPG.

“That could be drinking water and staying hydrated or going for a short walk a couple of times a week. I think it becomes overwhelming when people haven’t allocated 5 hours a week to workouts over the last year and then all of a sudden want to give that much time to it because your life has to actually fit into it somehow.”

The same can be said on the nutritional side of things.

Bennett recommends slowly incorporating healthier foods into your diet rather than change your eating habits completely off the hop.

This will allow for a better chance to stick with the new changes in your life.

Usually this time of year, gyms are much busier due to New Years’ resolutions and can be an intimidating place.

However, Bennett adds getting physical activity doesn’t have to be limited to the gym.

“Movement of any sort is a good thing for your body. Home yoga workouts, dancing with your family, going for a walk around your neighborhood, or going for a ski. Really picking up a hobby and getting your body moving.”
