BC announces new travel restrictions, current ‘circuit breaker’ restrictions extended until May 25

PRINCE GEORGE – Premier John Horgan has announced that the province will put new travel restrictions in place.

The new order set to go into effect on Friday restricts non-essential travel outside of your local health authority and will allow random checks to also be completed to check people’s reasons for traveling.

Horgan clarified only travel within your health authority is allowed, asking British Columbians to “stay close to home.”

The checks on travel will be conducted randomly, and will be similar to a Counter Attack roadside checkpoint, instead of a more targeted and individual approach.

For those who are not following travel restrictions, they will face fines in BC, few details were provided on what those fines may be.

The province announced they will also place signs at the BC-Alberta border discouraging non-essential travel.

The circuit breaker restrictions on indoor dining, group fitness, and other activities currently restricted will also be extended until May 25.

BC Health Officials say that they expect cases to plateau in the coming weeks as the age groups seeing the greatest surge will be given their first dose of the vaccine.
