16 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health

VICTORIA — The government of British Columbia announced 799 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. today, including just 16 in the Northern Health region.

The number of active cases of the virus has dropped to 8,089 cases while hospitalizations rose to 500, 164 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

No new deaths with B.C.’s death toll remaining at 1,571. There have been a total of 127,048 cases of COVID-19 in B.C. since the pandemic began, 117,150 of those people have recovered.

The Province has extended its state of emergency another two weeks through to the end of day on May 11, 2021.

Victoria says between Aug. 31, 2020 and April 23, 2021, 1,857 violation tickets were issued in B.C., including:

* 328 $2,300 tickets to owners or organizers contravening the provincial health officer’s (PHO) order on gatherings and events;

* 53 $2,300 violation tickets for contravention of the PHO’s Food and Liquor Serving Premises Order,

* 1,441 $230 tickets issued to individuals who failed to comply with PHO’s orders, and

* 35 $575 tickets to individuals who promoted or attended a non-compliant event.
