FRASER LAKE — A 73-year-old man was lucky to survive a small float plane crash on the west end of Fraser Lake Sunday.

North District RCMP say several residents in the area reported seeing the AME Piper PA-12 on floats, crash into the lake shortly after takeoff.

The pilot and sole occupant was able to get out of the plane and was in the water when someone in a boat was able to reach him and take him to shore.

The 73-year-old man was taken to hospital for medical treatment and the Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
