Cougars fall to Royals 2-1 in overtime

KAMLOOPS — The Victoria Royals’ 10-game winless streak came to an end Friday (April 30) with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Prince George Cougars at the Sandman Centre.

The Royals’ only other win before that? An overtime victory over the Prince George Cougars at the Sandman Centre on April 6.

Tyson Upper scored the Cougars’ lone goal halfway through the third period to tie the game 1-1, and goaltender Ty Young made 21 saves to ensure the game got to overtime.

However, Brayden Schuurman scored the game winning goal for the Royals three minutes into overtime.

The Cougars have a 6-7-3 record in the B.C. Western Hockey League Hub season, good for 15 points in 16 games and fourth in the standings.

Their next game is Sunday (May 2) at 6 p.m. against the Vancouver Giants.
