PRINCE GEORGE – 15 hockey coaches from across the country get selected to pursue the Skills Coaching Certification through Hockey Canada, and he’s one of them.

RJay Berra, a coach with Cariboo Hockey and the hockey program at Prince George Secondary School, has been looking into this certification for the last few years.

“Anytime you get picked for something you apply for it’s an honour. It’s awesome to be a part of that program,” said Berra. “it’s an opportunity for me to get some more accreditation and to grow as a skills coach myself so I’m able to help everyone here in the North that I continue to work with.”

The one-year program will allow Berra to eventually work with different minor hockey coaches and assist them in their skills-based practices, as well as give himself the credentials to work at different events and camps across the country.

“If an opportunity came up elsewhere, I think it would take a lot for me to make a move. I really enjoy what I do here, getting to work with the Cariboo (Hockey) program and especially at PGSS, I’m in a good spot right now. I just want to continue to grow myself and helping out wherever I can up here.”
