Prince George falls just shy of all-time weather record Monday

PRINCE GEORGE — It was hot Monday, but not hot enough to break the all-time weather record in Prince George.

Meteorologist Lisa Ervin with Environment and Climate Change Canada says we hit 38.4 degrees Monday, a record for June 28, but just shy of the all-time record of 38.9 degrees set on July 17, 1941. The previous record for June 28 was 30 degrees in 1938.

Ervin says we could still break that all-time record today with a forecasted high of 39. The current record for June 29 is 30.6 degrees this day in 1987.

Looking ahead, she says the ridge of high pressure will begin moving east tomorrow, dragging along with it the current air mass. That means temperatures will drop to a high of 33 tomorrow and to highs in the high 20s and low 30s through the weekend, still above average temperatures.

Ervin says there’s also a 60 per cent chance of showers tomorrow and a 70 per cent chance of showers tomorrow night, along with the risk of thunderstorms.
