Camsell Lake fire triggers evacuation order

PRINCE GEORGE — The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, Yekooche First Nation and BC Parks have issued an evacuation order for the Camsell Lake fire west of Fort St. James.

The BC Wildfire Service say the fire has grown from 10 hectares on Sunday to just over 188 hectares today.

The order stretches from the Northern portion of Stuart Lake from Camsell Lake FSR to the northern point of Stuart Lake including a portion of Rubyrock Lake Provincial Park south to Babine Lake including Cunningham Lake, Camsell Lake, and Whitefish Lake, including a portion of Sutherland River Park located in Electoral Area ‘C’ (Fort St. James Rural).

This includes the following Yekooche First Nation IR’s: Nan-Tl’at 13, Ye Koos Lee 13, Ye Koo Che 3, and Ucausley 16. See the attached map.

The RDBN say you must leave the area immediately and register at the reception centre.

  • Persons who disregard this Evacuation Order and remain in the Evacuation Order area do so at their own risk. The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako and Yekooche First Nation may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area.
  • If you need transportation assistance from the area please advise the individual providing this notice or call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250-692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you must.
  • If you require assistance for livestock, please call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250- 692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339.
  • If Yekooche First Nations require assistance, please contact Cynthia Hill at 250-562-0592 ext. 7.
  • Evacuees: Register at the Reception Centre in Fort St. James Secondary School at 450 Douglas Avenue, Fort St. James or contact the Emergency Support Services Director at 250-570-8484.
  • Emergency Support Services can provide assistance for food, accommodation, hotel or staying with friends and family, clothing, emotional support and family reunification.
