Major changes to Exploration Place

PRINCE GEORGE – The Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre will look like its predecessor once the doors open again. Work continues on the Paleo-Botany display in the foyer, but the Children’s Gallery and the “boat” are being relegated to history. What will replace it?

“This particular space will be a big back box,” explains Tray Calogheros, CEO of the Exportation Place Museum and Science Centre. “This will our new temporary and travelling exhibit space.”

That will free up 3,000 square feet of space for exhibits, while the previous space was limited to two thousand square foot exhibits.

“We are creating a new Ethnography Gally just outside of Hodul’eh – A Place of Learning, that will allow us to showcase neighbouring Nations and highlight reparation work we are doing in partnership with many indigenous communities in the Central Interior.”

They are also building a kitchen in the space once used for lectures. Origins Kitchen will be run by Jenny Arnott, who once owned and operated Playgrounds Cafe.

“The goal is to get those earned revenue streams up and running as quickly as we can. We’re still doing programming without the building. We’re going to look at Origins kitchen and Elements retail, the goal is to have those open in September.”

Then they can begin focussing on the curatorial work.
