PRINCE GEORGE—Starting Monday, you will need to show proof of at least one dose of the vaccine to enter some businesses in the province. More details were released this week on how it will work, but there are still some questions. CKPG-TV did some research to answer your questions about the mandate.

Q: What is the rule on outdoor weddings?

A: The province has said that with indoor events—such as weddings—with 50 or more people in attendance, you will need proof of vaccination . Outdoor events do not apply.

However, there are some exceptions. Some weddings may have an indoor component and the province says it can be considered an indoor event.

“An event held in a tent with one or more sides is considered an inside event. An event held in a tent without any sides is considered an outside event,” said the Ministry of Health.

Q: Is it possible for a business to choose to opt out of the mandate?

A: Only some can.

If you are on the list of non-essential businesses that the province provided, you cannot opt out of the mandate.

“We’ve worked with businesses throughout the pandemic, and we expect they will comply with the new requirement. Should enforcement be needed, tickets can be issued for violations of the PHO order. Depending on the violation, the fine amount for individuals is $230 or $575, and $2300 for event organizers or owners/operators of locations,” said the Ministry of Health.

If a business that’s not on the list chooses to opt in, they can opt out later if they choose to do so.

Q: Can an essential service deny me because I do no have proof of vaccination?

A: No.

“We will not at any time put in barriers for people to access essential services like health care or government services,” said the Ministry of Health.

You won’t be affected if you need to go to places the grocery store, pharmacy, or bank.

However, there are some services that were classified as essential at the beginning of the beginning that could require proof of vaccination if they choose to do so.

This includes places like veterinary clinics, that’s because they’re considered private businesses.

Q: What if I don’t have access to a smartphone?

A: There are other ways to show proof of vaccination.

You do have the option of ordering a paper copy by phone by calling the province’s hotline (1-833-838-2323), or you can go to Service BC and print a copy.

The province is also giving the option to use temporary proof of vaccination while waiting to get access to your QR code or paper copy. These include immunization record cards and a National Defence COVID-19 Record card.

This will be valid through September 26th, 2021. The full list can be found here.

Q: If my child is under 12, and I’m not vaccinated, can they enter a non-essential business by themselves?

A:

“Children under 12 years old are exempt from proof of vaccination.” said the Minstry of Health.”

By October 24th, you will need to be fully vaccinated to enter certain businesses.
