Vipers take a bite out of Kings

Nov 11, 2021 | 8:11 AM

The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped their 2nd game in a row Wednesday night as they fell 4-3 to the Vernon Vipers on the road at Kal Tire Place.

Vernon would break the ice in the opening period as Matthew Culling would net his 2nd of the season past Kings goaltender Aaron Trotter to make it 1-0 early.

The Vipers would double their lead in the middle stanza thanks to Griffen Barr and his first of the campaign near the midway point of the frame. However, the Spruce Kings would respond just a few minutes later.

On their league-leading power play, it would be Rowan Miller netting his 7th of the season from Dylan Schives and Nick Rheaume to cut the lead back down to one going into the 3rd period.

Vernon would restore their two-goal lead just 3:08 into the 3rd thanks to Ryan Shostak and just past the midway point of the frame Zack Tonelli would make it 4-1 Vipers.

The Kings though, wouldn’t go away.

Nick Rheaume would pot his 10th goal of the season with 4:06 to go in the 3rd and Rowan Miller would get the Kings back to within one thanks to his 2nd of the night in the final minute.

However, that was as close as they would come as the Kings would drop a 4-3 decision to the Vipers in their first matchup of the season.

The loss is the 2nd in a row for the Kings which knocks their record down to 8-5 on the year and puts them in 5th place in the Interior Division.

The Spruce Kings will look to bounce back Friday night when they return to the friendly confines of the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena for a re-match with Vernon. They will also host Coquitlam on Saturday.

Both contests are set for 7:00 p.m. at the RMCA.
