Northern Health seeking court injunction against Lambda Cabaret

Mar 10, 2022 | 6:22 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – After several weeks of blatantly defying public health orders and posting pro-freedom messages, Northern Health has taken the Lambda Cabaret to court.

In court documents obtained by CKPG News Northern Health filed an application for a court injunction against Linda Allen and the Lamda Cabaret on March 7.

According to a legal expert, the court injunction looks to prohibit the nightclub from reopening until the closure order put into place by Northern Health is lifted.

If the injunction is granted and the nightclub continues to disobey the court order much steeper consequences could face the owner and patrons caught inside the establishment.

In the application, Dr. Raina Fumerton, Medical Health Officer for Northern Health said the nightclub being open “presents a significant risk of causing a health hazard.”

Todd Corrigall, CEO of the PG Chamber of Commerce said the ongoing process is frustrating to watch, especially for so many businesses which have done everything they could to remain compliant.

Several people online including Corrigall have also called for the City of Prince George to revoke the nightclubs business license.

In Vancouver when the Corduroy restaurant broke pandemic rules, the City of Vancouver did eventually step in and evoke the license of that business.

The City of Prince George declined an interview but said in a statement “the city is concerned about any reports of businesses not following public health orders.”

“However, revoking a business licence is an extensive legal process and any investigations or actions the City may be taking will not be disclosed publicly. Enforcement of public health orders has always been under the purview of health authorities and the City and RCMP support their processes when possible.”

The matter will be heard Friday at BC Supreme Court in Vancouver.

CKPG News has reached out to the Lambda Cabaret for comment.

Northern Health declined to comment as the matter is before the courts.
