PRINCE GEORGE—RCMP reported to 349 calls for service over May long weekend.

“Our holiday weekend is usually fairly busy, as it typically coincides with our first bout of nice, warm weather. This year, however, Prince George enjoyed the sunny weekend responsibly, showing a decrease in calls for service of 23% over 2021,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.

Some of the calls police responded to over the weekend include:

– Assault x 6

– Disturbances x 23

– Drug-related offenses x 6 – Mischief x 15

– Motor vehicle incidents x 9

– Suspicious persons/vehicles/occurrences x 26

– Theft x 21

– Traffic complaints x 31

– Weapons complaints x 3

In addition, National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day occurred on May 21 and officers were out at two different roadside stops during the day, checking a total of 250 vehicles. Police issued four Provincial Roadside Suspensions for alcohol and three 90-Day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions as a result of this initiative. May 21 also marks the beginning of Safe Boating Awareness week, a part of which is reminding boaters to stay sober while operating a watercraft.

“Impaired operation of a motor vehicle or vessel is an arrestable offence. If arrested, you may find yourself in jail until you can be safely released to a responsible person, or held over for your first court appearance. We encourage those who are planning to drink alcohol or consume drugs of any kind, to plan alternative transportation in advance,” states Sgt. Kyle Ushock, commander for the Prince George RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit.
