CANADA DAY IS SAVED!

May 26, 2022 | 5:03 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – A big announcement this week as it looks like Prince George will have a Canada Celebration after all.

Canada Day festivities will be at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park; an event that has been organized and hosted by the Prince George Multicultural Heritage Society for 49 years.

“I am happy to report that we will have a festival taking place on July 1,” explains Marlies Greulich, who is the Prince George Multicultural Heritage Societies coordinator.

The Multicultural Heritage Society has funded past Canada Day celebrations with grants provided from the city, provincial, and federal governments, and they have continued to receive this funding in 2022. In the past, they have also sought corporate and local business sponsorship to cover the costs above and beyond what the grants covered. As with many organizations and events, the past two years severely impacted the way they have traditionally planned this long-time Prince George event.

Last week, CKPG shared a story about the Multicultural Heritage society being in a bit of a pickle with a lack of staff and the thought the event may be canceled. One news story and a post on Hell Yeah Prince George later and the city rallied together.

“We heard that the society was struggling a little bit to get everything together for Canada Day and it was on the verge of having to cancel just by lack of manpower,” said Kyle Sampson of Kyle Sampson Productions Inc. “A few of us were reached out to, to ask for some help and absolutely happy to volunteer and help out in any way we can.”

This group of individuals includes Dave Mothus of Hell Yeah Prince George and Mothus Financial, Aimee Cassie of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, Kyle Sampson of Kyle Sampson Productions Inc., Craig Briere of the Kodiaks Football Club and Prestige Hotels, and Dawna Varley of the Knights of Columbus Society and BC Day in the Park.

The celebrations kick off at 11 a.m. and run through 9 p.m. Friday, July 1. Further schedule to come. If you are interested in sponsorships or bookings or even volunteering you can email CanadaDayPG@gmail.com
