BC Liberal Caucus slams NDP over Emergency department closures across the province
VICTORIA — The BC Liberal Caucus has released a scathing statement today about the state of emergency room closures across the province.
Communities in Northern Health were hit especially hard. Fort St. John hospital had its ICU closed from June 2020 to January 2022. Chetwynd General Hospital had its Emergency Department closed overnight over two dozen times and was put on diversion on several occasions during that day from January 2021 to May 2022.

“With each passing day, the crisis in B.C.’s health care system deepens, and yet the NDP fails time and time again to take action to address this very urgent crisis,” said BC Liberal Leader Kevin Falcon. “For years, communities across the province have watched their ERs close and hospitals go on diversion because of chronic staffing shortages. Only after intense public pressure is this government even starting to acknowledge there’s a problem, and they’re nowhere close to backing up their rhetoric with results.” |
During Question Period yesterday the BC Liberals said that they doubled doctor training spaces while in power and say the NDP have not added a single new spot.
