PRINCE GEORGE – When the Canada West basketball season tips off this fall, the conference’s 17 schools will see their schedules return to the traditional 20-game format. With this return comes some brewing excitement for the athletes.

“First of all, I’m really excited about getting another season and as you say this a little bit longer. The more games we can get, the better it is,” said Alina Shakirova, fourth-year athlete. “And of course, it’s a bit more exciting to go out of B.C. I feel that even though I really like going to Vancouver it’s always nice to switch it up a little bit, see other matchups, and I think it just makes this season more interesting.”

In 2021-22, Canada West abbreviated its basketball schedules to 16 games and kept teams within their respective division. For the UNBC Timberwolves, that meant competing against the other six British Columbia-based universities.

This upcoming season, the Timberwolves will open up their schedule at home against the Trinity Western Spartans on Nov. 4, 2022. As usual, the women will play first at 5:00 p.m., followed up by the men at 7:00 p.m inside the Northern Sport Centre.

With the expanded schedule, and travel permitted, the Timberwolves will face Brandon, Calgary, Manitoba, Mount Royal, and Winnipeg for the first time in over a year.
